1. What We May Collect
2. How We Use Your Data
We use the information that we collect to provide you with requested Services, to personalize and improve our Service, to communicate with you, to prevent or mitigate spam and other abusive usage, to diagnose technical and other problems with our Services, and to generate information about how people generally use our Services, which we do not share with third parties unless it is aggregated and anonymous or as described below. As part of providing the Service to you, we use your personal data to allow you to register and manage your profile and your research portfolio. We also use this data to better present content from the Service, to improve and evaluate the effectiveness of our Service, to generate recommendations, such as articles that you may be interested in reading, for technical support, and to address your questions, complaints or concerns. We may also use aggregate statistical information regarding users’ interests, habits and browsing patterns. These statistical data do not contain any personally identifiable information. Some of these data may be made available to our community and other interested third parties (such as institutions and publishers) on an anonymous and aggregated basis. We may on occasion also match or combine the personal information that you provide with information that we obtain from other sources or that is already in our records, whether collected online or offline or by predecessor or affiliated group companies, for the purposes described above.
3. How We May Share Your Information
We may disclose your personal information to our agents, suppliers, service providers and affiliates that assist us with developing and operating our systems and applications, processing payments, customer support and marketing, promotion and communications. We do not sell your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes. We may share your personal information with other third parties in limited circumstances, such as with a vendor or partner who meets our data protection standards, or when we have a good faith belief it is required by law, such as pursuant to a subpoena or other legal process. If you are located in a jurisdiction where sharing of such information requires your permission, we will only share it with your explicit consent. In the event that Academic Sequitur is sold to a third party, your personal data may be transferred to that third party in accordance with applicable laws. We may need to disclose your personal information to respond to law enforcement, investigate or help prevent security threats, fraud or other malicious activity, to enforce and protect our rights and properties, or to protect the rights, property or safety of our users, employees or others. If we are going to share your information in response to legal process, we will give you advance notice so that you can challenge it (for example by seeking court intervention), unless we are prohibited from doing so by law or court order. We will object to requests for information about users of our site that we believe to be improper.
4. Modifying your Personal Information or Deleting your Account

If you delete your account, we may retain statistics about your research portfolio and information about papers you have added to your favorites for internal use purposes only, such as for analyzing which researchers and papers are most popular and well-regarded. However, this information will not be linked to any personally identifiable information, such as your name or email address, and thus your account and content will be unrecoverable. To prevent individuals from exploiting our free trial period, we also keep a record of all past users’ email addresses, except in cases where we are prohibited from doing so by law.
